Recharge - Chelated magnesium
Recharge - Chelated magnesium
Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals in the human body, necessary for over 300 different biochemical and enzymatic processes. Out of all of the minerals we consume daily in our diet, magnesium might be the most important.
There's a problem though - Even if we're consuming ample amounts of fruits, vegetables and lean meats in our diet, It's unlikely we're getting enough magnesium.
The issue is threefold. For one, the soil from which our food is grown now simply isn't the same as it was 80-100 years ago. It's theorized that NPK fertilizers and the likes have severely depleted the soil over time, yielding crops with lower levels of key micronutrients like magnesium.
Because magnesium is a water soluble nutrient, it needs to be replaced on a daily basis, especially if you're super active. It's estimated that we lose roughly 70-80% of our magnesium stores through perspiration. Additionally, both physical and psychological stress itself markedly increases our demand for magnesium (magnesium burn rate) as well. You can probably see why this is an issue.
To make matters worse, it's very likely you still aren't getting the magnesium your body desperately needs even if you ARE supplementing! Unfortunately, most magnesium supplements you'll find in the supermarket use cheap alternatives like magnesium oxide (the magnesium oxide listed on the label of Recharge is only 1% of the formula, and used entirely as a stabilizer) and citrate, which yield poor oral bioavailability - 'The ability of a drug or other substance to be absorbed and used by the body'
Don't let the label fool you either. Even if you are lucky enough to find a better alternative like magnesium malate or glycinate, it's likely you'll be paying more than expected to get the right dose. For example, take a standard store bought magnesium glycinate. 1600mg of magnesium bound to the carrier molecule glycine (aka magnesium glycinate) equates out to only 200mg of pure elemental magnesium. That means you'd need to take over 6,400 mg of magnesium glycinate to get 800 mg of pure *elemental* magnesium.
More often than not, many companies will make it unclear whether it's the total magnesium or the elemental magnesium posted on the label. This is where they trick you
Each capsule in 'Recharge' contains 100% label claim *elemental* magnesium, so you don't have to worry about potentially over or under-dosing the product.
Recharge contains two of our favorite forms of magnesium for athletes and active individuals
1. Magnesium Malate - Magnesium bound to malic acid. Malic acid acts as a pivotal intermediary involved in the Krebs cycle, where it's used to ramp up energy production in the cell
2. Magnesium Glycinate - Magnesium bound to glycine: an anti-inflammatory amino acid that may help promote muscle relaxation and restful sleep.
